CLOSED TOE SHOE POLICY
PURPOSE
To ensure the safety of all members and visitors in the Messy Room and Workshops, where kilns, ovens, and other hot or heavy equipment are in use.
POLICY
- Closed-toe shoes are mandatory for anyone entering the Messy Room and Workshops.
- Shoes must fully cover the top, sides, and back of the foot.
- No sandals, flip-flops, open-back shoes, or perforated footwear (e.g., Crocs) are permitted.
- Footwear should be sturdy and made from materials that offer protection against hot spills, falling tools, or sharp objects.
- This rule applies at all times, regardless of whether equipment is in use.
REASON
- Protection from burns caused by hot materials, kiln shelves, or heated tools.
- Prevention of injuries from dropped items such as ceramic pieces, tools, or kiln furniture, heavy tools, wood or metal.
- Reduced risk from sharp debris, broken pottery, or glass fragments on the floor.
ENFORCEMENT
- Team Leads or session supervisors will deny entry to anyone not wearing suitable footwear.
- Persistent non-compliance may result in removal of AMS access privileges.
REVIEW
This policy will be reviewed annually or after any relevant safety incident.
